NASHUA – The Bishop Guertin High School football team has set a pretty high bar this season. So perhaps that’s why Cards head coach Anthony Nalen wasn’t overjoyed with Saturday night’s 33-7 win over Bedford at Stellos Stadium, improving the Cards to 5-0 on the year atop the Division I West Conference. Don’t be mistaken, Nalen will take the win over the Bulldogs, who have owned the Cards – and others – over the years. But the BG offense at times wasn’t its usual precise self, as shown by just a 14-0 lead at the half with points – at least […]

Thursday’s used to always have a lull in the fall high school action. Not anymore. There were some big encounters yesterday, including the big battle of girls volleyball contenders between host Bedford and Bishop Guertin. North boys soccer goaltender Justin Ayotte did something that is really hard to do, while BG’s Zoe Horton-Sousa had a magic foot at Keene. For more, read on: GIRLS VOLLEYBALL BEDFORD 3, BISHOP GUERTIN 2 In a battle among two of Division I’s top teams, the Cards fell short in the fifth set, 15-12, after forcing it with a tight 26-24 win in the fourth set. It was a manic Monday on the high school circuit locally, with some big wins and a tie that was worth watching. The Nashua South girls volleyball team knocked Bedford from the the ranks of the unbeaten with a major rally. “That’s a huge win,” Panthers coach Tom Langer said. “It was exciting as heck. That’s a great way to go into the Battle of the Bridge game (Wednesday). We’re excited for that one.” Hollis Brookline girls volleyball stayed unbeaten with a career milestone taking place. Away from volleyball, Merrimack and BG played each other in three sports, going 1-1-1. Here’s […]

CONCORD – State Sen. Denise Ricciardi (R-Bedford) was recently named Legislator of the Year for the second time in as many years. The award, which was presented by the New England Water Works Association, recognized Ricciardi for her work to keep New Hampshire's water supply clean. Earlier this year, Ricciardi was the primary sponsor of SB 443, bipartisan legislation relative to wastewater engineering. It was signed into law by Gov. Kelly Ayotte on May 8. “Every Granite Stater deserves access to safe, clean drinking water and appropriate waste and storm water treatment to protect the health of our families and communities. […]

It wasn’t great weather on Thursday and the local high school results were mixed. Yay for Hollis Brookline and Souhegan girls soccer, Nashua South girls volleyball, and Bishop Guertin boys soccer. Nay for BG and South girls soccer, and South and Milford field hockey. Here’s a look: GIRLS SOCCER BEDFORD 2, NASHUA SOUTH 0 The Panthers couldn’t get their offense untracked in the pouring rain at Bedford’s Bulldog Stadium, falling to 1-2-3. South next faces arch rival Nashua North on Tuesday at Stellos Stadium. LASALLE (R.I.) 9, BISHOP GUERTIN 1 The Cards have not had good luck against the out-of-state teams […]

NASHUA – It was right on Cue. The quick header, that is, by Nashua South midfielder Michele Esposito that sent fellow Panther Connor Cue in the clear with perhaps the only open shot his team had in Thursday night’s Division I showdown with fellow contender Bedford at Stellos Stadium. Cue did not miss, beating an otherwise stalwart Bulldog netminder Silas Heiser to his lower right in the far left corner in the 61st minute. It was the only goal of a 1-0 South win, and the Panthers were singing in the rain. It was his first career varsity goal. “I saw […]

Another day, another win by the Nashua High School South boys soccer team, as well as those from Hollis Brookline and Milford. Welcome to Week 2 of the local high school football season. In the boys relays, the Bears […]

BEDFORD — It's tough to open against the defending champions, but head coach Josh Porter isn't making any excuses. The Nashua High School South Purple Panthers football season opener went about as poorly as it could. Bedford's defense forced six turnovers, including five interceptions, and had four sacks, and the Bulldogs' offense made big plays early and often as Bedford rolled to a 48-14 Week 1 victory on Friday night. South received the kickoff to open the game and on the second play from scrimmage quarterback C.J.Goss' pass went through the hands of receiver Griffin Carta, off the shoulder of defensive […]

There’s always a local high school volleyball team or two that will make a push to get to a final. The area was spoiled with Hollis Brookline’s dynasty, Nashua South’s unbeaten title seven years ago, all before the Bedford Division I dynasty was born. Bishop Guertin two years ago almost knocked off the Bulldogs, who fell back to earth last year after five straight titles, and Nashua North made the semis a year ago. Milford made the finals in 2024 and the semis in 2025 in Division II, and Souhegan has been a contender as well. This year? It’s wide open […]

The Souhegan High School girls field hockey team isn’t fooling around. No, the defending Division II champions, who have nearly all of their title team in tact, are taking things a step further this year in facing four Division I opponents. And not softies either. No, the Sabers, starting with Monday’s game at Pinkerton, have four Division I opponents on the schedule, including an all local matchup with Bishop Guertin, plus Keene and Bedford. “These should challenge us and we will be ready for that challenge,” Sabers head coach Kelli Braley said. “We’re excited for that challenge.” Two of those teams, […]

NASHUA – It’s a constant theme in sports: You can’t make mistakes against good teams, especially really good teams. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what the Nashua James E. Coffey Post 3 team did against tourney favorite Bedford Post 54 in Tuesday’s Senior Legion State Tourney Finals, falling 7-3 in the first and only game needed for Bedford to repeat as champions at Historic Holman Stadium. The Coffey Kids committed three errors leading to three unearned runs, which clearly hurt. “Yeah, they’re a good team, they capitalize,” Nashua coach Norm Kerman said. “When you give them an inch, they take a mile. There’s […]

NASHUA — Sunday night at Historic Holman Stadium brought the biggest heavyweight bout since the Thrilla in Manila, an American Senior Legion State Tournament winner’s bracket duel between District B and A first seeds Nashua James E. Coffey Post 3 and defending champion Bedford Post 54. Just as Ali vs Frasier, it too was an instant classic, with Bedford emerging victorious 4-3 against Nashua on former Souhegan High standout Brayden Hickman’s go-ahead RBI in the eighth inning. Now there is no margin for error for the Coffey Kids, who will face either Exeter or Rochester in a losers bracket final tonight […]

NASHUA — In Saturday's American Senior Legion State Tourney game at Historic Holman Stadium, Nashua’s James E. Coffey Post3 starting pitcher, the recent Bishop Guertin grad Ben Geiger, had a clear mission: shut down the Rochester bats. By any measure, it was a mission accomplished. Geiger struck out six, and behind a dominant offensive performance, Nashua secured an 11-1 win and will be moving on to a showdown of top District seeds with Bedford tonight at 7 at HHS. The winner goes to the finals, slated for Tuesday. Last night, Nashua's opening salvo came from third baseman Nicolas Wyner, who doubled […]

Slivka remembered her daughter as having a personality that was everything from smart and witty to bold and sassy. “She could command the attention of any room,” said Slivka. “She loved people.” By the time she was 3 years old, Ayla had already decided that she wanted to be a space scientist. “That decision never wavered,” said Slivka. “She was […]

NASHUA – Let’s make a deal. That’s what former Nashua Silver Knight Aiden O’Connell and his Keene Swamp Bats manager Shaun McKenna did prior to the Granite State Showdown exhibition earlier this week with the Nashua Silver Knights at Historic Holman Stadium. Bedford’s O’Connell, just back from a vacation, struck a deal where if he pitched, he could also hit. It turned out to be a win-win, because not only did O’Connell toss five innings of one-run ball, he also drove in the game-winner with a base hit in the fifth for a 2-1 Swamp Bats win in the seven-inning affair. […]

It's a wonderful children's book about a girl and her grandfather.” Harrington said she spent 18 months working on the 30-page book, which is geared for children ages 6-9. “It's written in a […]

The impact sent the vehicle half-way back across the Turnpike and struck the center median. The Bedford Fire Department and the state Department of Transportation also responded to the scene.
